Fall is here!  Can you believe it!

We are well on our way into 2nd grade!

As of today, we have been in school for 31 days!  Time is flying by!  We are working on many skills.  Some of them are refreshers from 1st grade and some of them are new.  It has been a pretty good beginning.  I hope you will continue to encourage your student to work hard!

Meet the Challenge!
Challenge your student to practice spelling just 5 minutes per night.

We will  learn many Math strategies in the beginning of the year.  These are some examples.

add zero     3+0=3

add 1        5+1=6

add 2        7+2=9  (skip counting)

doubles      6+6=12

doubles plus 1     7+6=13  (think: 6+6=12 so one more is 13)

doubles plus 2     8+6=14  (think: 6+6=12 so two more is 14)

Try some of your own!

Classroom News:
We will have a sticker reward system in place for returning our red folders on time.  Upon earning 18 stickers, a student can choose a prize from our prize box.  Due to the Healthy Child in Iowa policies,  I will not be able to give candy or gum (unless it is sugarless) as a prize choice.  That's okay!  We can all cut back on our sugar consumption!  NOTE:  I did find some sugarless candy and bubble gum but will use it sparingly.

We are continuing to learn about aspects of farming.  A HUGE THANK YOU to those of you who took the time to go with us to the Discovery Program in Waterloo.  I could not have done it without you!!!!!
